It's Time To Change Your Wardrobe
Stop shrinking yourself to fit places (and things) you’ve outgrown—
Y’all felt that right? I did.
The other day I was trying to find an outfit to wear out to dinner with some friends. So I went to my pants closet (yes I have a pants closet) and started trying on some pants. The first pair was like..nahh sis these are too tight, second pair couldn’t get pass my thigh, third pair the belt loop ripped from me trying to pull them up…and by the fourth pair I GAVE UP! I walked into my bathroom and my first thought was WTF. (I’m being completely honest, those were my words). And then while I was staring at myself I started to FIRST breakdown everything that I thought was wrong with me. You’ve grown Carleesha, but I tried to view this in a negative light. But something hit me and I was like wowwwwwwwww, YOU’VE GROWN. Fitness and health have become a huge part of my life over the course of this year. I have fully committed to living a healthy lifestyle and while doing that my body changed. I became toner, more lean, built muscle and that had a physical effect on my body. My closet contained clothes that I’ve worn for yearssssssss, even back to college where my body type was completely different. I ate different, weighed different, moved different. So my first thought when I gave up on trying on clothes was “It’s time to change your wardrobe”! Why am I trying to shrink myself to fit into clothes that I wore years ago. I outgrew them. So simple but yet so relevant to my life.
We outgrow clothes, people, places, friends, relationships. That is the beauty of life. God allows our growth in certain places to seat us in heavenly places with him. It’s okay! I was like look, the fact that I can’t fit these pants anymore is not going to cause me to shrink back into them. I look good! Growth looks good on me! Growth feels good to me! My hard work and dedication in the gym helped me! Okay! What are we going back for?
So when that pant size grows but you feel good about it, let it go-change your wardrobe. When that relationship weighs you down—change your wardrobe. When those friends don’t fuel your fire anymore—change your wardrobe. When that job is not pushing you towards your calling—change your wardrobe. It took me attempting to put on a pair of pants that GOD no longer saw fit for me to realize it was time to change my wardrobe in all parameters of my life. Pants don’t fit, okay time for some new ones. Friends don’t elevate you and are okay with being complacent and stuck where they’re at, okay time for some new ones. Whatever you’ve outgrown, its time for something NEW.
STOP SHRINKING YOURSELVES TO FIT PLACES (AND THINGS) YOU’VE OUTGROWN!
—Yours Purely
